Mechanics Of A
Breath
When you breathe in, the breath is forced to
pass through the narrowest portion of the nose, the nasal valve,
which increases air speed and pressure. Just after passing the
valves, the air expands into the nasal cavity, creating
turbulence.
This turbulence promotes contact between the air
and the moist mucosa tissue. Through this process, the breath is cleansed of
particles, humidified, and heated or cooled to near body
temperatures.
Chronic sinus infection
Symptoms of a chronic sinus infection (chronic sinusitis) can depend upon which of your sinuses are infected. Generally speaking, however, symptoms of chronic sinusitis may include:
Facial pain or tenderness, sometimes aggravated by stooping
Purulent, discolored nasal discharge or drainage
Nasal obstruction
Altered facial sensations
Fever and fatigue
Headache
If you have these symptoms for 12 weeks or longer, you may be diagnosed with chronic sinusitis.
