Surgical Procedures
Some conditions may be treated with medication and/or lifestyle changes, while others may require surgery.

A list of surgical procedures is shown below.

Treatment for a chronic sinus infection
Because it is associated with more long-term inflammation and swelling, chronic sinus infection is more likely to result in nasal obstruction and require surgery. In general, however, initial treatment in chronic sinusitis is similar to treating acute sinusitis. If antibiotic treatment fails, allergy testing, desensitization and/or surgery may be recommended.

Sinus surgery is generally a last line of defense for doctors to relieve a chronic sinusitis condition. Today, most surgeries are endoscopic (FESS - functional endoscopic sinus surgery), which allows your surgeon to operate without making facial incisions. The surgery is generally accomplished in one to three hours, and can take several weeks for a full recovery.

Remember, certain lifestyle factors—especially smoking—increase the risk of persistent sinusitis, as well as that of surgical failure if surgery is performed. Effective, long-term results following your surgery are largely dependent upon making lifestyle changes that will help your condition.
